How to organise your storage unit

Depending what size unit you go for, it will save you a lot of effort in the long run if you organise your unit in a sensible way.

If you don’t need to access your boxes until you move out, then you don’t really need to worry about leaving space around the unit, though it is good to have space to allow air to flow freely. On the other hand, if you’re planning to access the unit throughout your rental period, make sure you leave enough space to move around easily and safely inside the unit.

First things first, using same-size boxes helps with stacking and accessibility. Make sure that you label all sides of the boxes too, it can be tempting to write what’s in there on the top of the box but when it’s stacked, you’ll have no idea what’s inside. Stack the heaviest boxes on the bottom and lighter ones on top. Also, don’t forget to utilize hollow spaces like wardrobes and drawer space to store smaller items. Regardless of whether you’re storing for a long time or a short time, you can store upwards to make the most of the space.

We’ve spoken previously on the blog about including shelving in your unit to maximise space, and this is handy whether you’re storing document boxes for work or organising stock for your business.
